Daniel Rojas Lanus is searching
for his ancestors in the United States, probably descendants of Jean Lanusse
Cazenave who was born in Prechacq-Navarrenx June 21, 1786 (died ?) and
emigrated to Argentina around 1814. He was the son of Pierre Lanusse Saint
Gerons, born in Prechacq-Navarrex, Bearn, district of Orthez, south of
France May 18, 1759 and Jeanne Cazenave, born ?)
Jean emigrated to Argentina at the time
Napoleon invaded Spain. As it was not wise to land as a frenchman, he converted
his surname to LANUS (which is more of a spanish form). He married on Oct
15, 1815 Doña Teresa Jacinta Calixta Fernandez de Castro, born August
14, 1793 and died on April 3, 1853.
They had 6 children :
1. Leopoldo, 2. Anacarsis,
3. Teófilo, 4. Rosa, 5. Juan and 6.
Lucio.
About 1827 he decided to make trips to
Islas Malvinas along with Governor Luis Vernet . Soon thereafter he dissappeared
without a trace.
Some people say that he emigrated to Cuba.
Some others say it was to the U.S. since he owned land and plantations
in the south. We have information that he owned some black slaves who adopted
his name after him.
There is also a U.S. family who bears
the name LANUS (descendants from ancestors from Alsace-Lorraine) who contacted
us once. The name Lanus does not exist in Spain and is reputed to be only
to the descendants of Jean de Lanusse Cazenave in Argentina.
Information and documents would be of great
value and very much appreciated.
