Born in 1884, he was Emperor Wilhelm II's third son and once regarded
as a possible husband for the Grand Duchess Olga of Russia. However, in
Wilhelmshaven on 3 August 1914, he married Princess Adelheid of Saxe-Meiningen.
He served in the German Imperial Navy and managed to
make a reasonable adjustment to life after the revolution. With his
wife and children, they lived many years in Switzerland where they used
the titles of Count and Countess von Lingen.
