(1914-1971)
Born 3 January 1914 Hetzendorf
Died 2 October 1971 Poecking, Bavaria
Aged only four, she went into exile with her parents and brothers. However,
her education as a Habsburg continued. She leared to speak German, Hungarian
and Croatian. In Brussels she completed the gymnasium and, in Louvain,
finished her studies with a doctorate. In 1935, after the new laws in regards
to the Habsburg came into effect, she returned to Austria where she supported
the movement to restore her brother, Otto, to the thrones of Austria and
Hungary. However, in
March 1938 after the national socialist take-over of Austria, she escaped
via Hungary, Belgium, and Portugal to the United States and then to Canada.
In New York she worked as a social worker, then as Professor of Sociology
at the Fordham University. In 1945 she returned to Europe as a journalist
and assistant of her brother, Dr. Otto von Habsburg. After signing her
renunciation papers, she was allowed to visit Austria. She remained unmarried
and, on 2 October 1971 in
Poecking, Bavaria, died aged only fifty-seven.
