Adolf Friedrich II, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz 1701-1708, (1658-1708)
born 19 October 1658 Grabow
died 12 May 1708 Strelitz
married 10 June 1705 Strelitz
Princess Christiane Emilie von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen
born 30 March 1681 Schwarzburg
died 1 November 1751 Mirow

The 19th child of Duke Adolf Friedrich I, he was born eight months
after his father's death. His eldest half-brother, Christian Ludwig I,
remained childless and his full brother, Friedrich I, became the
founder of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
On 26 October 1695, his cousin and father-in-law, Gustav Adolf,
Duke of Mecklenburg-Gustrow, died. Immediately Adolf Friedrich II
claimed possession; but his nephew, Friedrich Wilhelm of the Schwerin
branch, protested and asked for Imperial interference. A treaty was
signed on the 8th of March 1701. Friedrich Wilhelm received the title
and part of the Duchy while Adolf Friedrich II received Stargard and
Ratzeburg, from then onwards known as the Duchy Strelitz.
He was a kind and amiable man and tried to encourage trade in his
Duchy. His nephew, Friedrich Wilhelm, was still a problem in not
wanting to acknowledge him and causing Adolf Friedrich to call a
        separate "Landes Tag" in Neubrandenburg.
