Aleida van Holland (-1284)
daughter of Floris IV, Count of Holland 1222-1234
and Machteld of Brabant
Died 1 March 1284 / 9 April 1284
Buried Valenciennes
Married September 1246
Jan I d'Avesnes, Regent of Hainault
Born April 1218 Houffalize
Died 24 December 1257 Valenciennes

She was probably about sixteen when she married Jan d'Avesnes, the future Count of Hainault, and they became the parents of seven children. However, their marriage lasted only eleven years as her husband died in 1257. From 1258 until 1263 she was regent in Holland for her nephew, Count Floris V. She founded the city of Schiedam to which, in 1275, she gave city rights. She died between 1 March and 9 April 1284 and was buried in Valenciennes.
