Duke Alexander von Wuerttemberg (1804-1885)

He would have become King of Wurttemberg had he not forfeited his
rights through his morganatic marriage. However, on 2 May 1835 in
Vienna, he married the beautiful Hungarian Countess Claudine Rhedey de
Kis-Rhede and they became the parents of three children. As the
marriage was morganatic, she received the title of Countess von
Hohenstein. They had been married for only six years when she was
trampled to death by a squadron of cavalry led by her husband, her
horse having bolted while she was watching them gallop past at some
manoeuvres. Duke Alexander never really recovered from the shock of
          this terrible tragedy.
