He received considerable grants from the crown and was in command of
a battalion at the battle of Flodden, 8 September 1513, being one of the
few Scottish nobles who survived that defeat. In 1517 he was one of the
Council of Regency and Lieutenant over all Scotland, except over Argyll's
bounds. He died in Perth on 21 January 1524 and was buried at the Dominican
Friars there.
