(1819-1876)

Princess Hedwig von Lobkowicz, daughter of August Longin,
Fuerst von Lobkowicz and Princess Marie Anna Bertha zu
Schwarzenberg
Born 15 September 1829 Lemberg
Died 19 October 1852 Tachau
Alfred married Princess Maria Hedwig von Lobkowicz who died after two
years of marriage. Like three of his brothers, Alfred was a General in
the Austrian Army. In 1838 as a young lieutenant he was a
member of the delegation under his uncle Prince Adolph zu Schwarzenberg
which represented the Emperor at the coronation of Queen Victoria. During
the insurrection in Prague in 1848 (which was put
down by his father as commanding General) he was badly wounded. As
his father's wing-adjutant he took part in all his campaigns. During Austria's
war with Prussia (1866), he commanded two regiments in the battle of Koenigraetz,
and was again badly wounded by a bullet in the abdomen. He died in Tachau
of the effects of his wounds on 28 April 1876.
As a soldier he was very often absent from Tachau; but it seems that
between him, his administration and the people of the region, a close paternalistic
relationship developed which became stronger
during his son's period as owner of Tachau. During Alfred Joseph Nikolaus's
time the little river Misa again flooded extensively, killing thirteen
people and ruining many others. He immediately offered help with money
and many thousands of florins worth of timber.
