On 7 April 1893 in Watertown,
New York, he was born as son of Prof.
Allen Macy Dulles and Edith
Foster. Educated at Princeton University,
received a B.A. in 1914
and an M.A. in 1916, and from 1916 till 1926
he was in the US Diplomatic
Servide, Department of State. In 1926 he
obtained an LL.B. from the
George Washington University. From 1926
till 1942 he practices law
in New York and, from 1942 till 1945, was
head of of Office of Strategic
Services post in Bern, Switzerland.
From 1946 till 1950 he practiced
again law in New York. From 4 January
1951 till 23 August 1951,
he was Deputy Director for Plands, CIA and,
from 23 August 1951 till
26 February 1953, Deputy Director of Central
Intelligence. On 9 February
1953 President Dwight D. Eisenhower
appointed him Director of
the CIB, on 23 February 1953 this was
confirmed by the Senate
and he was sworn in on 26 February 1953. On 10
November 1960 President-elect
John F. Kennedy requested him to
continue as Director of
Central Intelligence, and he remained until 29
November 1961. In 1963 and
1964 he served on the President's
Commission on the Assassination
of President Kennedy. Allen Welsh
Dulles died on 28 January
1969.
