She grew up in Dillenburg with the many children of her uncle, Johann
VI, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg. Later on she lived with her elder half-sister
Maria in Buren. She had always been in love with her cousin Wilhelm Ludwig
of Nassau-Dillenburg and was encouraged by her father and step-mother Louise
de Coligny. However, Wilhelm Ludwig's father objected. It was not only
theological objections he had but also because Anna had no financial prospects.
The theological objections were the easier to overcome once it was pointed
out that adhering to the objection of a marriage between cousins was submitting
to Papal rule. Then it was Anna's brother, Maurits, assisted by several
German relations, who gave financial assistance and, on 25 November 1587,
Anna married her cousin. Sadly, less than a year later she died on 13 June
1588. Wilhelm Ludwig never married again as 'the old affection was still
too much".
