Antoine "le Grand batard" de
Bourgogne, Heer van Beveren,
Comte de La Roche, (1421-1504)
Married 26 June 1459
Marie de La Vieville, Vicomtesse d'Aire, Dame de La Vieville
In 1452 after his half-brother, Cornelis de Bourgogne, fell in battle,
Antoine became Lord of Beveren, Crevecoeur and Vassy. He also inherited
his soubriquet of 'le Grand batard'. He established his name
in battle as well as at tournaments, collected books and became a knight
in the Order of The Golden Fleece in May 1456.
His half-brother, Charles 'the Rash', Duke of Burgundy, was killed
in battle at Nancy on 5 January 1477, while Antoine was taken prisoner
and had to swear allegiance to the French King. As a result
the French king made him Seigneur de Grandpre, Sainte-Menehould, Passy,
Passavant, Chateau-Thierry and Chatillon-sur-Marne by 'lettres patentes'
on 20 August 1478. In January 1485 he was legitimised and made a member
of the Order of Saint Michel.
