& Hainault (1150-1195)
Born circa 1150
Died circa 17 December 1195

Margarethe of Flanders
Died 15 November 1194
He was knighted in 1168 and became Count of Hainault in 1171. Where
his father and grandfather had failed, he succeeded in having Flanders
returned to their family, not by war, but by marrying the heiress, Margarethe
in 1169, as a result he succeeded as Count of Flanders in 1191. Beforehand,
in May 1184, he was accepted as the next Markgrave of Namur and, on 23
September 1190, was elevated to Markgrave in Schwaebisch Hall. He died
in Mons in 1195 and buried there in the Abbey of Sainte Waudru.
