Married 23 July 1212 Div.1221
Margarethe, Countess of Flanders and Hainault 1244-1280,
daughter of Baudouin VI-IX, Count of Flanders, Emperor of Constantinople
and Marie de Champagne
Born circa 1202
Died 10 February 1280

As a priest he lived in Laon, Doornik and Orleans. Nevertheless, in March 1212 he married Margaretha, Countess of Flanders and Hainault, and fathered three sons. However, in 1221 their marriage was annulled and, as a priest, he was excommunicated and the pope declared their children to be illegitimate but, in 1242, Emperor Friedrich II legitimised them. As a result their eldest surviving son, Jan, wasdeclared heir in Hainault though not in Flanders. His ex-wife remarried and had more children. In 1244 Bouchard died and was buried in the Abbey of Clairefontaine.
