He was born illegitimate but his father and mother married a year after
his birth. As a result he remained plain Charles Richard Fox while his
younger brothers and sister were known as Honorable. After his father died,
his younger brother, Henry Edward, became 4th Baron
Holland. Charles Richard Fox was first a general and later an archaeologist.
He married Lady Mary FitzClarence, one of the illegitimate daughters of
King William IV, but their marriage remained
childless.
