Lord Charles Murray (1799-1824)
son of John Murray, 4th Duke of Atholl
and Marjory Forbes
Born 11 March 1799
Died 11 August 1824 in Greece
He loved Greece and arrived in Mesolonghi shortly after Byron's death
in 1824. He paid for the construction of a battery at Mesolonghi and translated
a work on military fortifications into Greek. With his wealth and connections,
it was hoped he would bring improvements; but he died that summer of sunstroke.
What had not been known was that he had escaped from a mental home.
