As his father's only son, he was styled Marquess of Harwich. On 21                     
March 1691 he was given a warrant for making him a free denizen of                     
England. On 27 January 1711 his father resigned to him the Colonelcy                   
of the 8th Horse. However, he died unmarried on 5 October 1713 and was                 
buried in Westminster Abbey.
