Christian VI, King of Denmark
and Norway 1730-1746 (1699-1746)
Born 30 November 1699 Copenhagen
Died 6 August 1746 Horsholm
Married 7 August 1721 Pretsch
Markgraefin Sofie Magdalena von Brandenburg-Kulmbach,
daughter of Markgraf Christian Heinrich von
Brandenburg-Bayreuth and Countess Sophie Christiane von
Wolfstein
Born 28 November 1700 Castle Schoenberg
Died 27 May 1770 Christianborg
The Danes hated him for his negative if pious behaviour. He allowed
the clergy to censor literature and art as well to fine people who did
not attend church. His plain and insignificant German wife, Sophie Magdalene
von Brandenburg-Kulmbach, supported him in his extreme piety and also shared
his only wordly pursuit of shooting game. However, Denmark was at peace
and prosperous during his reign.
