As a Baron he sat in King David II's Parliament, was captured with that
king by the English at the battle of Nevill's Cross in 1346, and "considered
of so much importance that he was placed in the custody of the Archbishop
of York, who was enjoined not to deliver him up without a special mandate
from King Edward". He was freed only on payment of a heavy ransom.
