Dirk of Holland, Bishop of Utrecht
(-1197)
Died 28 August 1197 Pavia, Italy
Son of Dirk VI, Count of Holland 1121-1157
and Sophia von Rheineck
|
After the death of his brother Boudewijn, who was Bishop of Utrecht,
Dirk's supporters in Holland wanted him as the next Bishop. However, others
preferred Arnoud von Isenburg. Both Dirk and Arnoud went to Rome to plead
their cause with the Pope; and when Arnoud died Dirk was accepted as Bishop
unopposed. He was consecrated as Bishop but died on
his journey home at Pavia, 28 August 1197.
