On 4 March 1737, aged only sixteen, she married Francois Joseph de Bethune,

in Paris with the ceremony performed by her uncle, the Archbishop of Bourges
and future Cardinal de La Rochefoucauld.
She became the mother of a son and a daughter. In 1744 she inherited
from her great-uncle, Monsieur de Montigny, brother of Marguerite Elisabeth
Huguet. In March 1745 she asked to be relieved from her duties as a Lady-in-Waiting
at the French court so that she might retire to be with her father-in-law
and to live a pious life. At the court she was replaced by the Duchesse
de Nivernais.
