Florence Pellegrin
Affair with Philippe II, Duke of Orleans, Regent of France 1715-1723
Born 2 August 1674 St.Cloud
Died 2 December 1723 Versailles

About 1691 she started an enthusiastic affaire with the Duke of Chartres,
the future Duke of Orleans and Regent of France, which resulted in the
birth of a son. However, the affaire was frowned upon because Florence,
an actress and a celebrated 'grande horizontale',
was several years older than her lover.
The Duke installed her near the Palais-Royal, setting up a mistress
so visibly, as well as his having made the choice of a much more experienced
woman, suggests that there was a degree of bravado involved in the decision.
However, while continuing his liaison with
Florence, he began a new one with a young actress, Christine Desmares.
