During his minority, a second cousin, Baudouin, Count of Bentheim,
acted as regent. Floris IV added Altena to Holland and, in 1234,
participated in the attack on the Stedingers. In the same year he was
accidentally killed while jousting in France. His son and successor,
Willem II, was elected to become Holy Roman Emperor, but was killed
in
a minor battle against the West Friesians.
