He was born on Tuesday 9 September 1603 at Verteuil. In 1623 the Marechal de La Force wrote to his wife, "Monsieur, the Count of Roucy, arrived yesterday; he is strong but gentle; I will present him to the king so he can pay his respects."
On 13 December 1627 at Sedan he married Juliane Catherine de La Tour d'Auvergne and they produced three children. Juliane Catherine was very well connected, being the daughter of the Duc de Bouillon, sister of the famous Mar‚chal Turenne, as well as a granddaughter of Prince William the Silent.
In 1629 he was arrested and imprisoned while proclaiming his innocence but was soon released. He lost his wife when she was only thirty-three years of age, while he himself died at the age of
seventy-six.
