Jean Babou, a prominent soldier, politician and diplomat, was the father
of two sons and seven daughters. All seven were married, beautiful, immoral,
unfaithful and known as "the seven deadly sins". Francoise was the most
beautiful but also the most depraved. Soon
after she married Antoine d'Estrees, she took a series of lovers of
which Antoine remained unaware. But then she changed, remaining faithful
for ten years and giving birth to nine children, of which eight survived.
However, she then eloped with the much younger
Antoine, Marquis de Tourzel-Alegre. In 1583, at over forty, she went
to live with him openly in his chateau and bore him a daughter. However,
the country people were not used to such behaviour and in June 1593 she
and her lover were murdered.
