Born 27 May 1819 Berlin
Died 12 June 1878 Paris
Married 18 February 1843 Hannover
Princess Marie of Saxe-Altenburg
Duchess of Saxony
Born 14 April 1818 Hildburghausen
Died 9 January 1907 Gmunden

Born 27 May 1819 in Berlin, he had the great misfortune of being
blind, having lost his sight as a boy in an accident with a swinging
bunch of keys. He was able to overcome his disability to a large
extend.
On 18 January 1843 in Hannover, he married Prince Marie of
Saxe-Altenburg and they became the parents of a son and two daughters.
In 1851 he succeeded his father and became King of Hannover.
Unfortunately he sided with Austria in the war of 1866 and as a result
Hannover was annexed by Prussia.
King Georg V and his family went into exile at Gm?nden in Austria
and died, on 12 June 1878, while on a visit to Paris. His body was
brought to England for burial in St. George's Chapel, Windsor.
