She was born in Exeter during the English Civil War and was brought up in France by her mother. In 1660 her brother, Charles II, was restored in England and in 1661 she married Philippe, Duke of Orleans, the homosexual brother of King Louis XIV, whose mistress she
was rumoured to have been. She played an important part in the negotiations of the Secret Treaty of Dover between Charles II and Louis XIV, but shortly after her return she died and was rumoured to have been poisoned.
