Mary Caroline Berkeley, daughter of Sir George Cranfield
Berkeley and Hon. Emilia Charlotte Lennox
Born 18 June 1795
Died 10 September 1873 Euston Hall
From his birth until 1811 he was styled Viscount Ipswich, and Earl of
Euston from 1811 until he became the 5th Duke of Grafton. He was educated
at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, and became a Whig M.P.
for Bury St. Edmunds and for Thetford. He sat in the House
of Commons until he succeeded his father and was the last Duke of Grafton
to do so. He became absorbed with religion and church attendance. He abhorred
spirits and allowed only one inn on the
Grafton estate. At home, he lived in only one room, which he cleaned
himself.
