He became Major General in 1819, and Lieutenant General in January
1837; was M.P. (Tory) for Perthshire 1807-1812; a Lord of the
Bedchamber 1812-1832; A.D.C. to the Prince Regent and to the King
1813-1819. On 17 July 1821 he was created Baron Glenlyon, being one
of
the "Coronation Peerages" of King George IV.
