In 1788 and 1789 he fought
against Turks as well as in nearly all the
wars between the Austrians
and the French. Commander-in-Chief in
Lobardy from 1831, in 1848
Field-marshal Radetzky was driven out of
Milan by the insurgents,
but held Verona and Mantua for the Habsburgs.
Defeated at Goito, he won
a victory at Custozza, and re-entered Milan.
In March 1849 he almost
destroyed the Sardinian army at Novara, forced
Venice to surrender, and
till 1857 again ruled the Lombardo-Venetian
territories with an iron
hand. He died at Milan.
