In Brussels in 1593 he received some of his father's properties which had been confiscated at the time his father had been executed. He also became a knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece and on 4 November 1599 he was appointed Governor of Namur. In 1617 his elder brother, Lamoraal, died and Karel became 7th Count of Egmond, Prince of Gavre
and Steenhuijse, Lord of Fiennes, Armentieres, La Hamaide and Beierland. However, in 1620 he sold Beierland. Karel van Egmond died 18 January 1620 while in The Hague and was buried at Armentieres.
