A capable and loved ruler, he was as well a generous benefactor of the
church. Three of his religious foundations still exist: the abbeys
of
Mariazell, Heiligenkreuz and Klosterneuburg. He had no political
ambitions and in 1125 refused to be nominated as candidate for the
Imperial crown.
