As one of his many women friends, she attended the Palais-Royal, the
Court of 'Monsieur', the Duke of Orleans and younger brother of Louis XIV.
Her family were unpopular with Louis XIV for being too grand and too independently
minded. Philippe, the Duke of Orleans, was on close terms with them all,
particularly the Chevalier de Bouillon, her son, who had called the King
'an old country squire living in the provinces with his aged mistress',
and who was in perpmanent disgrace as a result.
