Marie de La Rochefoucauld, Abbess
of Paraclet
daughter of Frederic Charles de La Rochefoucauld
and Elisabeth de Durfort
At first she went to the Convent of Our Lady in Soissons; then, in August
1705, she became Abbess at the Paraclete convent, founded by Abelard after
he in 1121 had been condemned for his Nominalistic doctrines. In 1125 he
was elected abbot of St.Gildas-de- Rhuys and Paraclete was given to Heloise
and a sisterhood.
