1399-1413
born 3 April 1367 Bolingbroke Castle

Mary de Bohun was an heiress whose estates included lands around the
Wye Valley and Monmouth. She was twelve when she married Henry Bolingbroke.
At the time of his son's birth, Bolingbroke was making his way home from
Windsor when he was crossing the Wye at Walford, the news was brought to
him. The proud father was so delighted he awarded the ferryman with the
monopoly of the ford.
Soon after his birth the baby was taken from the castle to a village
some miles away to be nursed by Joan Waring. In fact, Mary de Bohun seldom
saw her child for she died, having given birth to three more sons and two
daughters, when she was about twenty-two and her son, the future King Henry
V, was about seven.
