The 'Sun' newspaper was characteristically blunt when Max Aitken,
having revived his grandfather's peerage in 1985, was given a
government job: "Beaverbrook is not a chip off the old press baron,
who created a newspaper." Whether stung by what the 'Sun' said or
through natural reserve, Max Aitken no longer appeared amongst the
junior ranks of the Thatcher government.
Educated at Charterhouse and Pembroke College Cambridge, he is
married and the father of three children. The head of a small
successful venture-capital company and chairman of the Beaverbrook
Foundation, he is a member of White's club and the Royal Yacht
Squadron.
