Not overburdened with political scruples, he was one of the members
of the Seym who duly recognized the First Partition of Poland invited the
Russians again to suppress the liberal reforms just introduced. His chief
concern was making money, at which he succeeded
brilliantly.
For thirteen consecutive years his annual income exceeded five million
zlotys, much of it gained by administering the estates of Nieswics and
Olyka for his young cousin, Dominik Radziwill. Since the young head of
the family was killed fighting with the Polish Legion in
1813 and left no heirs, Michal Hieronim was able to establish his own
children's claim to the huge inheritance.
