Petrus de Zapar, Senechal of
Veszprem
mentioned 1452 |
The earliest records of the Szapary family date from the 13th century.
According to the genealogist Szabolcs de Vajay, the recording of Szapar
as the original seat of the family dates from 1222, the year of the Golden
Bull of Andreas II, King of Hungary. Records from this century refer to
one "Abba Nobile de Zapar".
Szapar featured in Hungarian documents as early as 1341 under the name
Villa Zapar, and in all probability the village was already the property
of the family in that year. By the middle of the 15th century the castle
of Szapar was the permanent residence of the family.
In 1452 Petrus of Zapar was Senechal of the county of Veszprem, a position
later also held by his son Emericus (Imre) Zapari (meaning "of Zapar").
