He was born in Brussels and baptised by the Infanta Isabella. In 1654
his father died in exile and he became the 9th Count of Egmond, Prince
of Gavre and a Grandee of Spain. He became a Captain-General in the
Spanish army and a Spanish envoy in London. In 1679 he became vice-roy
of Sardinia and died at Cagliari, 16 March 1682.
