Przemysl Ottokar I, King of
Bohemia 1198-1230 (1155-1230)
Born circa 1155
Died 15 December 1230
Married circa 1198
Konstanze of Hungary
Died 4 December 1240
Initially confirmed as Duke of Bohemia in 1192 by Emperor Heinrich VI,
he was deposed the following year but regained possession of Bohemia in
1197. In 1198 he was acknowledged as King of Bohemia by Emperor Philipp
and had almost total autonomy for Bohemia. His title was later
confirmed by Emperor Friedrich II in 1212 and this extinguished the
control of the Empire over Bohemian affairs. Przemysl Ottokar I then established
a basis for a strong Bohemian state and the hereditary rights of his family.
