He was one of the Commissioners in the precinct of Athlone for examining
the Irish 'delinquents' and Major in General Monck's regiment of Horse.
Then, having assisted the measures of his elder brother, Sir Charles Coote,
Baronet, in promoting the restoration of the King, on 6 September 1660,
he was created Lord Coote, Baron of Coloony. On the same day his brother
was created Earl of Mountrath.
Richard Coote, as Lord Coote, took his seat on 6 May 1661. He died
10 July 1683 and two days later was buried in Christ Church, Dublin. His
widow, whose estate of œ580 a year was sequestrated by the Parliament of
James II, died 5 November 1701 at Kilrush, county Kilkenny, and was also
buried at Christ Church, Dublin.
