Prince Sigismund of Prussia
(1864-1866)
son of Friedrich III, Emperor of Germany, King of Prussia
and Princess Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland
Born 15 September 1864 Potsdam
Died 18 June 1866 Potsdam
He was his parents fourth child and seemed so much cleverer and more
intelligent than the other children. However, he died from meningitis on
18 June 1866, aged twenty-one months. His mother's grief and despair were
intense as his father, leading the Prussian army into battle against Austria,
had taken away all the available doctors this making it impossible for
her to alleviate the suffering of her child or to prevent his death, the
memory of which would haunt her for the
rest of her life.
