St. Margaret of Wessex (1045-1093)
Born circa 1045 in Hungary
Died 16 November 1093 Edinburgh Castle
Married circa 1069 Dunfermline
Malcolm III Canmore, King of Scots 1058-1093
Born circa 1031
Died 13 November 1093 Alnwick (in battle)
Born in Hungary, she later came to England. However, after the Norman
Conquest she fled with her mother, sister and brother from Northumberland
to Scotland. Young, lovely, vivacious, learned and pious, she won the heart
of the Scottish king, Malcolm Canmore, whom she married. She did much to
civilize the nothern realm and still more to assimilate the old Celtic
church to the rest of Christendom. She was canonized in 1251 by Pope Innocent
IV.
