             In 1659 in the family division, he received Usingen and, in 1671, 
        became a Colonel in the Dutch Republic's army. In 1672 he became
        lieutenant-general in the cavalry, in 1673 a general and, from 1674 
        till 1684, was governor of Bergen-op-Zoom and afterwards of 
        's-Hertogenbosch. 
             On 16 June 1678, in Frankfurt-am-Main, he married Catharina, 
        Countess de Croy-Roeulx, and they became the parents of five children. 
        However, on 20 May 1686 she died and, on 18 June 1688, he married 
        Magdalena, Countess of Loewenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort. 
             On 4 August 1688 Emperor Leopold I elevated him to the rank of 
        Fuerst and, on 15 July 1689, he became second Fieldmarshall. From 1696 
        he was first-in-command in the Dutch republic's army. On 27 May 1701 
        in The Hague, he sold the two houses he owned there and, on 17 October 
        1702, died in Roermond.
