        On 27 February 1791, aged only seven, he was appointed a "ritmeester"
        in the army of the States General of Holland. From 21 December 1701 
        till 1707 he was a Colonel in the Regiment Walen. On 30 June 1703 he 
        was wounded at the battle near Ekeren. On 15 April 1706 he married 
        Charlotte Amalie, Princess of Nassau-Dillenburg, and they became the 
        parents of ten children. On 14 February 1718, aged only thirty-three, 
        he died leaving his widow as regent for their two sons.
