He was known as Viscount Ipswich until, in 1844, he became styled Earl
of Euston until 1863 when he succeeded his father and became 6th Duke of
Grafton. Educated at Harrow, in 1841 he became Attach‚ to the Legation
in Naples and was M.P. for Thetford from 1847 until 1863. In
1858 he married the Hon. Marie Anne Louise Baring, a granddaughter
of the French Duke of Bassano, but their marriage remained childless.
He devoted his life to hunting and was regarded as the model landlord.
In 1882, aged sixty-two, he died of typhoid fever and was succeeded as
Duke of Grafton by a younger brother.
