Educated at Eton, he matriculated, aged eighteen, on 19 February 1798
at Christ Church, Oxford. On 13 July 1803 he married Selina Clements and
they became the parents of two daughters. She died on 28 May 1805 and,
on 28 May 1809, he married Harriet Bentinck, a granddaughter of the 2nd
Duke of Portland. He spent time in the Yorkshire Militia and, on 9 September
1811, succeeded to the Baronetcy.
