Born 28 June 1754 at Rendlesham, he was educated at Westminster School
from 1768 until 1771. On 3 May 1773 he became an Ensign and Lieutenant
1st Foot Guards; Lieutenant and Captain, 14 June 1776 but retired from
the army on 25 June 1777. In 1782 he inherited the titles of
Earl of
Rochford and Lord of Zuylenstein from his uncle. However, when he died
unmarried, on 3 September 1830, his titles became extinct while his
possessions went to a distant cousin.
