He was a bastard of Floris V, Count of Holland, and received from his
half-brother, Jan I, Count of Holland, the property of Haamstede. In 1304
he successfully defended Zierikzee against the Flemish, defeating them
in 1304 at Manpad near Haarlem. He died in 1321 and his widow, Agnes van
der Sluys, was mentioned on 26 December 1321 as being the
guardian of their three sons.
