all the tools guides, inventories, and indexes available for the National
Library of France. Among the many valuable items is the "Table Alphabetique
du cabinet des Titres" (Noms de famille des 6 premieres series, 10 vol.
manuscrits). This is the key index to the papers found on French nobles
in the Cabinet des titres (Office of Noble titles). Among these papers
are many genealogical documents used to prove the noble status of a person
and his ancestors. Some of these documents reach back to the Middle ages.
With the information you find in this index you can order copies made
of the original documents. So far only a few university libraries have
this resource.
