The
murder of Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley (1545-1567)
(showing the events surrounding
the murder of Darnley. The house where he was staying, at Kirk o'
Fields, just outside Edinburgh, was blown up by gunpowder. The bodies
of Darnley and his valet were found in a nearby orchard, with no marks
of burning on them. Apparently, they had escaped from the house,
and been killed by strangling, but there had been no time to put the bodies
back inside before the house blew up. In the upper left corner of
the sketch, the infant Prince James can be seen saying "Judge and avenge
my cause, O Lord")

murder of Darnely, Mary Queen of Scots married her third husband, the man
everyone thought was the murderer: James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell.
